Undergraduate

Public Speaking Lab

The Public Speaking Lab seeks to help undergraduate and graduate students grow their public speaking skillsets for academic and professional opportunities, such as:

  • Speeches/presentations for a class
  • Conference presentations
  • Thesis/dissertation defenses
  • Lectures and keynotes
  • Job talks and video job applications

During the semester, students can schedule an appointment with a lab mentor for one-on-one public speaking support that’s specifically tailored for their needs. Depending on a student's needs and situation, appointments may be in-person or virtual.

What We Offer

Services that mentors offer can include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Provide feedback on speech/presentation outlines and manuscripts
  • Discuss strategies to manage communication apprehension
  • Create a speech plan (e.g., research, writing, delivery)
  • Provide feedback on delivery for in-person and/or online speeches
  • Help design presentation aids for specific contexts/audiences
